The iPhone 17 Pro Max is competent. It's well-engineered. It's also expensive for what you're getting. If you're upgrading from an iPhone 15 Pro Max or earlier, the battery life and thermal improvements justify consideration. If you're coming from the 16 Pro Max, you're paying $1,199 for better zoom and longer battery life. That's a tough pitch.
